Have a Canadian bank account with access to Interac payment rails
Ensure that the name on your bank account matches the name on your Coinbase account
Add cash via Interac e-Transfer
With Interac e-Transfer, Canadian customers can add cash to their Coinbase account from their bank app powered by the Interac network. Follow these steps:
Select Assets on the menu from within your Coinbase account.
Select Add cash from the CAD balance and choose Interac e-Transfer.
Enter the amount you want to deposit (be aware of your bank's Interac e-Transfer limits).
Choose the bank you wish to transfer from or, if you selected to get an email link, watch for an email with further instructions.

Funds should appear in a few minutes (longer if the network is busy).
You should see a verified Interac payment method added after your first successful deposit.
Cash out to a bank account
Before you can cash out your CAD to your bank account, you will need to complete an initial transaction adding CAD to your Coinbase account from your bank account.
Cash Out via Interac e-Transfer
To cash out CAD from your Coinbase account, follow these steps:
Select Assets on the menu from within your Coinbase account.
From the CAD balance, select Cash out.
Enter the amount you want to cash out.
Preview cash out and fee amount and confirm the cash out.
Note the reference code provided on the confirmation screen.
If your email is not registered for auto deposit, open the email from Interac and choose the bank where you want to receive the cash out.
When prompted on your bank app or website, enter the reference code provided in step 5.
Buying with a debit card
You can make a purchase with a debit card if your card supports "3D Secure" (3DS). These purchases will occur instantly. To determine if your card supports 3DS, contact your debit card provider directly.
To add a debit card:
When logged into your account, go to the payment methods page.
Select Add a Debit Card at the top of the page.
Enter your card information (the address must match the billing address for the card).
If needed, add the billing address for the card.
You should now see a window that says Card Added and a Buy Digital Currency option.
You can now buy digital currency from the Buy/Sell page anytime.
To buy crypto on web using the 3DS process:
Go to the Buy/Sell page.
Select the crypto you want to buy and enter the desired amount.
Select the card from the payment methods dropdown menu.
Confirm the order is correct and select Complete Buy.
You'll be directed to your bank's website (the process differs depending on the bank).
Learn how to purchase using a 3D Secure card via the mobile app.
Note: Coinbase no longer supports linking new credit cards and some card issuers are blocking cryptocurrency purchases with existing credit cards. If you have a credit card linked already, your bank may charge additional fees for Coinbase credit card purchases. To avoid these fees, switch to a debit card.
We're unable to support prepaid cards or other cards without an associated billing address, and cards must have a valid expiration date and CVV (3-digit security code on the back). Also, the debit card must be 3D secure enabled.
All credit card and debit card payments are processed through Coinbase Payments.
Interac e-Transfer transaction cancellations
If a payment sent through Interac e-Transfer is delayed, it may be blocked by Interac or your bank. In such situations, it is your bank's responsibility to unblock the payment. Please contact your bank with the relevant transaction details. If the transaction is not unblocked after 6 hours, Coinbase will cancel your deposit and send an email informing you of the cancellation.
Transaction appropriateness
Based on the account assessment taken when you created your Coinbase.com account, Coinbase is required to notify you by email when you reach a certain investment amount. This is just a reminder to monitor your portfolio in alignment with your trading or investment goals and doesn't restrict your ability to purchase crypto on Coinbase.
