Gain access to a deceased party's Coinbase account

In the event that you inherit or otherwise become entitled to the assets in a deceased family member's Coinbase account, rest assured that Coinbase has created a process to transfer the assets in the easiest manner possible. The best thing to do is contact us to make us aware of the situation.

How to contact us

1. Access our contact form. The following will be auto-selected:

2. Provide the following documentation:

  • Files:

    • Death Certificate

    • Probate Documents for the Deceased’s Estate (either Probate, Letters Testamentary, Letters of Administration, Affidavit for Collection, or Small Estate Affidavit)

    • Current, valid government-issued photo identification of the person(s) named in the Probate Documents submitted

    • A letter signed by the person(s) named in the Probate Documents instructing Coinbase which Coinbase account to send the account assets

3. If you don't already have a Coinbase account, please create one to receive the assets from the deceased's account.

4. Complete all remaining required fields and actions.

Please keep in mind that the required documentation and processes may differ depending on your region, residence, and individual situation. If we need additional information, we will request it via email.

Naming a beneficiary on my Coinbase account

Coinbase currently does not support naming a beneficiary for individual accounts. Like most other assets in your estate, the ownership of your Coinbase account will be transferred according to your estate planning documents or state's intestate laws.
