Payment Methods for UK Customers

We are working hard to bring back GBP wires as soon as possible. Currently, the only way to transfer funds to your Coinbase account would be to use SEPA or to purchase using a 3D Secure enabled credit or debit card. Prior to sending funds, you will need to look into your bank's policies on exchanging for EUR as well as any other fees they may apply for this service.

Deposit with Bank Account

The steps to initiate a SEPA deposit are as follows:
  1. Select EUR Wallet on the left side of the page
  2. Select the Deposit button at the top-right

  3. Use the information displayed to initiate a SEPA transfer in euros from your bank account.  It is important to include the Reference Number to ensure that your deposit is correctly associated with your Coinbase account. UK customers will need to make an International SEPA transfer, otherwise the IBAN number will be invalid as incorrect in length.
Your funds will appear in your account 1-3 business days after you send them.

After the deposit has cleared (usually about two business days), you are free to use your euros to make a purchase from the Buys page on Coinbase.

Withdraw to Bank Account

Before you can withdraw euros to your bank account, you will need to complete a successful SEPA deposit to your Coinbase EUR wallet. Instructions for this are covered above.

withdraw euros from your Coinbase account, follow these steps:
  1. Select EUR Wallet on the left side of the page
  2. Select the Withdraw button at the top-right

  3. Provide the requested information for your bank account if requested
  4. Confirm the withdrawal
Withdrawals typically take 1-2 business days to complete.

Please note that we only support the euro currency for SEPA transfers at this time. If you send a different currency in your deposit (such as dollars, pounds, kroners, etc.), the transfer will be rejected by our system and will automatically be returned to your bank account.

If you have submitted a deposit and it has not been credited to your Coinbase account after three business days, please contact us.

Buying with a Credit or Debit Card

Note: Coinbase no longer supports linking new credit cards and some card issuers are blocking digital currency purchases with existing credit cards. We encourage affected customers to switch to a debit card or linked bank account instead.

Note: If you have a credit card linked already, your bank may charge additional fees for Coinbase credit card purchases. To avoid these fees, switch to debit card or bank account.

You can make a purchase with a credit or debit card if your card supports ‘3D Secure’. With this payment method, you will not have to pre-fund your account to buy. You can purchase instantly without waiting for a bank transfer to complete.

To determine if your card supports 3D Secure, you can contact your credit/debit card provider directly or simply try adding it to your Coinbase account. You will get an error message if your card does not support 3D Secure. Some banks will require various security steps to authorize a purchase using 3D Secure. Some of the methods you may see will be a text message, a bank provided security card, or security questions.

The following steps will get you started:

  1. When logged into your account, go to the payment methods page.
  2. Click ‘Add a Credit/Debit Card’ at the top of the page.
  3. Enter your card information (The address must match the billing address for the card).
  4. If needed, add a billing address for the card.
  5. You should now see a window that says ‘Credit Card Added’ and a ‘Buy Digital Currency’ button.
  6. You can now buy digital currency using the ‘Buy/Sell’ page anytime.

The following steps will walk you through the 3DS purchase process:

  1. Go to the ‘Buy/Sell Digital Currency’ page
  2. Enter the desired amount
  3. Select the card on the payment methods drop down menu
  4. Confirm the order is correct and click ‘Complete Buy’
  5. You will be directed to your bank’s website (Process different depending on bank)
